Event title: Teaching Peace and Building Resilience in Young Children through Play
Name of organizer: The World Organization for Early Childhood Education (OMEP)
Date: 9 November 2016
Time: 13:00 – 14:20
Location: PdN, Room XIV
Event description: Over the past several decades, we have witnessed the increasing severity and frequency of crises that children around the world face. Humanitarian response alone will not be able to keep pace. Fortunately, recent advances in neuroscience suggest new opportunities to contribute to resilience and sustainable peace through the investment in positive early development of young children. OMEP has invited Dr. Rima Salah, Chair of Early Childhood Peace Consortium (ECPC), to discuss with our representatives the early childhood pathways to peace. Our newest world project, entitled Play and Resilience, will also be introduced. We welcome all stakeholders to join us.
Speakers:
  • Rima Salah, Chair of the Early Childhood Peace Consortium (ECPC) and Adjunct Faculty Member at the Child Study Centre, Yale University
  • Eli Bergsvik, OMEP World Treasurer-elect and Former Rector at Bergen University College
  • Nektarios Stellakis, OMEP Vice President for Europe, Main Representative to UNOG, and Assistant Professor at the University of Patras
