GLOBAL CAMPAIGN FOR EDUCATION (GCE)

OMEP has worked in coordination with the GCE, developing actions in favor of early childhood and the right to education. The Global Campaign for Education is a civil society movement, founded in 1999 with the purpose of advocating on the defense of education as a human right. The GCE has a worldwide and political incidence, by pressuring the governments and international community to fully achieve the right to education as the Sustainable Development Goal 4 states: “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

OMEP as the GCE considers that education is a political issue, and is necessary that the governments and international community invest in it, and recognize its importance as a basic human right.

GCE vision is “to influence governments to take the actions necessary to guarantee equitable quality education for all, on a lifelong basis, through effective and accountable provision of public education.” (GCE 2015, 2019 vision) they share six strategic areas in relation to this vision:

  1. 1. Quality education
  2. 2. Equity, non-discrimination and inclusion in education and through education
  3. 3. Strong, public systems, leadership and governance in the education sector
  4. 4. Financing for public education
  5. 5. Transparency, accountability and the role of civil society in the education sector
  6. 6. Education in contexts of conflict or disaster
