When April ends, there is a certain kind of quiet that falls over a school hallway. Notes for review stuck to lockers. Someone is pacing near the water fountain and their lips are moving slowly. The teacher stopped in the doorway to look at an A4-sized schedule. Every year, it takes place, and 2027 will be no different. For A level students, the schedule for the next few months is already set. And knowing it well, long before May, can really make a difference in how prepared someone feels going into that exam room.
The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) plans and coordinates all A level and AS level exams in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. These exams all take place at the same time. That means that all of the big test boards, like AQA, Edexcel, OCR, and others, are following the same set of rules. The tests happen at either 9 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. When a student has more than one test in a session, they take them one after the other, though the school is sometimes allowed to give them a break while they work. For those who haven’t looked closely enough, this is the kind of detail that can catch them off guard.
There is a small amount of freedom for schools and colleges. A center doesn’t have to tell AQA directly if it wants to start or end an exam up to 30 minutes early or late. Students shouldn’t just assume that the published time is when they’ll be walking through the door; they should check with their own schools first.
In some classes, the due dates are a long time before the actual exams. Assessments and grades for most units and parts must be sent to AQA by May 15, 2027. The due date for Art and Design assignments is May 31, 2027, while the due date for Applied General assignments is June 11, 2027. Physical Education has a completely different schedule. Submission is two weeks before a moderation visit, which will happen between March 1, 2027, and May 31, 2027. Not having these windows isn’t a small problem. This is the kind of thing that stays with a student for months.

Along with the written exams, practical and performance-based subjects have their own due dates. A level dance practical visits are planned for March 1, 2027, and May 15, 2027. As of September 15, 2026, assignments set by outside sources will be sent to schools. You can visit Drama from February 1, 2027, to May 31, 2027. Speaking tests in a modern foreign language are given from April 19, 2027, to May 28, 2027, which is a five-week period. I think that students in these subjects don’t always realize how early the process starts. The final paper may feel like the end, but the real work has been going on for months.
Students of math should be aware of a certain thing. If you are taking Further Mathematics at AS or A level, you will need a clean copy of the official formulae and statistical tables booklet that AQA gives you. Not a copy you downloaded and printed at home. Not a copy that was marked up by hand during revision. A clean copy from the center. That kind of rule doesn’t seem important until the morning of the test, when it does.
It’s possible that Wednesday, June 23, 2027, is the most important date that students don’t think about ahead of time. Today has been set aside as the official backup day for the 2027 exam series. Awarding bodies can use this date to reschedule papers that need to be moved because of a national or local event that causes a lot of trouble. In real life, that means that students should not plan anything for that date. Plans for the summer, trips, or parties after exams shouldn’t be set in stone before June 23. It’s an easy-to-miss detail that you should probably tell your parents as soon as possible.
Students will get their results on Thursday, August 12, 2027. Schools will get them electronically the day before, on Wednesday, August 11, 2027. That date, at the end of summer, stands alone, carrying the weight of all that came before it: the early mornings, the old papers, the speaking tests in April, and the work turned in in May. There are still many months to go. When the day finally comes, students who think of the 2027 A level timetable as something they should know now instead of something they need to rush to get to tend to feel a little more stable.
